#Assupol TuksCricket: Tuks stroll past Kovsies as they find their next gear

Posted on February 02, 2017

The defending champions, Tuks, had little problems getting past Kovsies, winning by seven wickets in Potchefstroom on Wednesday afternoon.

Kovsies won the toss and elected to bat. Wihan Victor couldn’t follow up hi 97* from the previous match and fell for a disappointing 1, caught behind by Herman off the bowling of Ruben Trumpelmann. It would get worse the following over when Pretorius grabbed the wicket of Jacobus Dreyer and Kovsies were down to 8/2.

Arno Bouwer and Siphamandla Mavanda attempted to rebuild the innings, but Thomas Kaber, who would have a fine outing with the ball, removed Bouwer’s stumps and Kovsies were three down at 20/3.
Dylan Francis was a lone ranger, holding things together for Kovsies, while his partners tumbled at the other end, eventually ending on an unbeaten 39.

Although Kovsies still had five wickets remaining they could only muster a low 98/5 thanks to the pinpoint accuracy by the Tuks bowling department.

Tuks would have thought it would be smooth sailing, but Kovsies had them in trouble early on, when Tuks lost Donavon Ferreira for 1 in the second over. But Ivan Kriek and Tony de Zorzi took the Pretoria men to a respectable 43, before De Zorzi fell for 20.

Thomas Kaber was runout four balls later and there was a glimmer of hope for Kovsies with Tuks on 45/3. But Rubin Hermann and Kriek steered the defending champions home comfortably, as they reached 99/3 in just over 10 overs, winning by seven wickets.
