The players first attended lectures presented by the curator of SuperSport Park, Rudolph du Preez, who won the CSA Groundsman of the Year Award at this year’s CSA Annual Awards where after they put their knowledge into practice and became part of the groundsman team at the two international matches.
This forms part of players’ education in the TuksCricket Senior Academy and was a great opportunity for the players to learn about the upkeep and the maintenance of cricket fields where they often find themselves.
The players thoroughly enjoyed this experience to be part of the field preparation at a world renowned field for an international match. One of the players Matthew Nepgen said, “It was a great experience to actually see what goes into preparing the field for game day, to see how the compile pitch report, learn about the conditions and do the evaluations. It’s also good for your game preparations to know how to read the pitch and field conditions.”
