The idea behind this was for the Academy players to become motivated to work harder to reach the next level of cricket. One of the Academy players had the following to say after his experience at the Titans:
"The first session we observed was a batting session with JP Duminy and Dean Elgar. Even though both of these players are Protea players the head coach, Rob Walter, had to call them for a chat to ask them to refocus and concentrate on their training. This just shows that everyone is human and needs reminders every now and then during training sessions. After the chat it was amazing to see how they switched on and refocused again.
I found that their training sessions are fun yet focused. I enjoyed the fact that they had music playing while they were training and I think this is a good tool we as an Academy can use in our next session.
What I mostly took out of the whole experience is how close we all are to actually reaching our goals as we train the same as they do and all it is now is a mind switch to a different mental state about how far you as a person would like to go.
After the training session we sat down with Coach Walter and that was an honour. What stood out for me from this chat was his words "Keep it simple, don't complicate and over think". It was an amazing experience overall." - Stuart de Klerk
