Assupol TuksCricket Win Momentum National Club Championships for Third Consecutive Year

Posted on April 29, 2014

Tuks put on a powerful performance throughout the tournament and finished top of the log in section two and went through to the final where they played against Madibaz PE at SuperSport Park.

The Madibaz won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Tuks batsmen took the opportunity and the first four Tuks batsmen, Aiden Markram (79), Murray Coetzee (52), Johan Wessels (49) and Graeme van Buuren (97), put in a combined effort to help Tuks score 316 for the loss of 6 wickets in their 50 overs.

In return, the Tuks bowlers defended the total magnificently and managed to bowl out the Madibaz for 222 in 40 overs ensuring a victory of 94 runs for TuksCricket. Sean Nowak (8-1-31-3) took three wickets in the match and Gerhard Linde (7-0-32-2) and Corbin Bosch (6-0-28-2) each took two wickets. Graeme van Buuren was named Man of the Match.

TuksCricket have been unbeaten in the last three National Club Championships, 18 consecutive matches in total.

TuksCricket's vice captain, Aiden Markram, who captained the World Cup Winning SA u19 team earlier this year and who was player of the tournament in the World Cup, was the highest run scorer in the 2014 National Club Championships. He was also named player of the tournament. He scored 210* on day 3 of the tournament when TuksCricket played against United CC. This is the highest individual score by any batsman in National Club Championship history.

TuksCricket Head Coach, Pierre de Bruyn said, “These players put in a lot of work to produce this result for three years running. To be unbeaten for three years is a massive achievement and it’s because of the winning culture we have instilled in the team. This is all due to their hard work and sacrifice and having lost seven senior players from last year’s final to franchise and provincial teams, I’m especially happy to see our youngsters playing their part and making positive contributions.”
