I’m Dr. Stuart Pimm, Professor of Conservation at Duke University, and a global leader in studying biodiversity—especially present-day extinctions and what we can do to prevent them. I direct Saving Nature (www.savingnature.org), a non-profit that uses donations for carbon emissions offsets to fund conservation groups working in areas of exceptional tropical biodiversity, helping them restore degraded lands.
I’ve authored nearly 400 scientific papers and five books, including The World According to Pimm: A Scientist Audits the Earth, an acclaimed assessment of the human impact on our planet.
My work has been recognized with several honors, including the International Cosmos Prize (2019), the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement (2010), and the Dr. A.H. Heineken Prize for Environmental Sciences from the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (2006).
In 2024, I was awarded an Honorary DSc from the University of Pretoria.
