The GSK Mobile Dental Units Launch and celebration of World Oral Health day

Posted on April 17, 2014

In 2013 GSK donated four GSK mobile dental units to the three dental schools (University of Pretoria, University of the Witwatersrand and the University of Limpopo (Medunsa campus) in Gauteng. Dr Galane, Ms Sofala together with two oral hygiene students (Anika Olivier and Cindy Myburgh) from the University of Pretoria, School of Dentistry attended the ceremony.

The Department of Community Dentistry of the School of Dentistry at the University of Pretoria visits primary schools and primary health care centres in the Greater Pretoria area to provide oral health services and more specifically, primary preventive oral health services with the GSK mobile dental unit. This dental unit enables dental schools to provide oral health services in the marginalised and underserved communities. It is a fully equipped unit with a dental chair, intra oral x-ray unit, sterilisation machine, dental equipment and materials. This is an unique model of providing quality oral and dental treatment with the latest innovative resources available on board the GSK mobile dental Unit. The services are rendered by final year dental and oral hygiene students under the supervision of qualified dentists and oral hygienists.
