Following the publication of his article, South Africa’s role as host of the BRICS summit is fraught with dangers. A guide to who is in the group, and why it exists, with The Conversation Africa on 2 June 2023, Professor Danny Bradlow was interviewd on eNCA and Newzroom Afrika to discuss South Africa in hosting the 15th BRICS Summit in August 2023.
On 3 June 2023, Professor Bradlow was interevied by eNCA's Anlie Hattingh on South Africa's role in global governance and their role as the hosts of the approaching BRICS Summit.
The smart [approach] is to maintain a non-alligned position, to maintain a position, as the minister said ,that the war in Ukraine is an important issue but it is not the only important issue in the world. The questions of poverty and climate change are more important in many ways. The challenge for South Africa now is the fact that President Putin has been indicted by the International Criminal Court as a war criminal and they would like to put him on trial. South Africa as a signatory to the International Criminal Court has an obligation to arrest President Putin if he should come to South Africa. That obviously puts South Africa, as the host to the upcoming BRICS Summit, in a very difficult position.

On 7 June 2023, Professor Bradlow was interviewed by Duduzile Ramela on Newzroom Afrika and spoke on the development of the BRICS and South Africa's position in this grouping.
All of the countries agree that the current arrangements for governing the global economy are not really responsive to the needs of developing countries and emerging markets, and that there is need for reform and change in those. That has attracted the interest of some other emerging markets that now would like to join BRICS, but the interests are relatively shallow in the sense that they don't necessarilly fade closely together... The interests are mixed and it often shows up in the fact that threre is some impressive developments, like the creation of the new insitutions in BRICS, but there are also areas of disagreement and where the tensions are within in the groups are probably more important than the ability to collaborate.
