MEDIA: We Are Nature with James Ogude

Posted on February 14, 2022

On 12 January 2022, director of the Centre for the Advancement of Scholarship Professor James Ogude was invited to participate on the Flourish Systems Change Podcast with Sarah Ichioka and Michael Pawlyn, on an episode titled "We Are Nature".

The episode saw Professor Ogude explore the concept of Ubuntu, discuss how the humanities can complement scientific perspectives, and explain how modern cultures can learn from lost languages and Indigenous knowledge, particularly in relation to community and a rebalanced relationship with the Earth.

...we've been working on ways in which the problem of extraction in Africa has affected or has led to climate degradation, and yet our argument is that these stories, these forms of damage, need writers and storytellers. And they have always been at the forefront of the struggle against this kind of degradation of the Earth.
