On 7 May 2021, the University of Pretoria’s Faculty of Education awarded Professor Teboho Moja, visiting research fellow at the Centre for the Advancement of Scholarship, an honorary doctorate.

Professor Moja provided an address in which she thanked the Faculty of Education and the University of Pretoria for honouring her is this way. In her address upon receipt of this honour, Professor Moja noted the continued transformation of the University of Pretoria into a leading research institute on the African continent.

“This is a University whose leadership has a vision for Africa’s development and found it necessary to establish the one and only centre referred to as Future Africa. Future Africa sends out a powerful message that there is a future in Africa, a message that Africa is our collective responsibility.”

In the honouring of Professor Moja, the Faculty wrote:

“Professor Teboho Moja’s contributions to the South African society are embodied in her work that interweaves policy, politics, and activism in her academic profession to benefit the broader society. These contributions date back to the mid-1980s…Her intellectual and public contributions embody the UP vision for “knowledge that makes a difference” to the development of South Africa, Africa and the global south.”

Professor Moja is a Clinical Professor of Higher Education at New York University, an Extraordinary Professor at the University of the Western Cape - South Africa, and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre for the Advancement of Scholarship at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. She is the recipient of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Faculty Award (2019), the National Research Foundation- Lifetime Achiever Award (2019), Women in International Education Award (2019), and Graduate Students Star Award (2019).
