Appointment of Prof Maluleke as the Deputy Director of the CAS

The Centre for the Advancement of Scholarship is pleased to announce that Professor Tinyiko Maluleke, a Senior Research Fellow at the CAS, has been appointed as the Deputy Director of our Centre with effect from 01 March 2019 for a period of two years. 

Professor Maluleke brings to this position extensive experience not just in Senior Management, but also as a leading researcher within the University, nationally and internationally. He is a professor of theology and has been a Senior Reserach Fellow at the Centre since April 2018. Professor Maluleke is a B1 NRF rated scientist and an elected member of the Academy of Science for South Africa. Previously, Professor Maluleke was the immediate former Advisor to our former Rector, Professor Cheryl de la Rey. He has also served at the University of South Africa (where he was the Executive Director: Research; Deputy Executive Dean and Dean of Fauclty), the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (where he was an associate professor) and the University of Johannesburg (where he was Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Internationalisation, Advancement and Student Affairs). 

A well-known social and political commentator on South African, African and global politics, Professor Maluleke is a regular columnist for the Mail & Guardian and Sunday Independent newspapers. He is proficient in most of the official South African languages as well as in French. 

We look forward to working with Professor Maluleke in building a strong research culture within the Centre and to improve our profile nationally and globally.
