The Political Economy of Developmental State-making in South Africa

Essentially, the research traces state-making processes over the past 100 years, and underline the primacy and centrality of both ideas and politics in shaping and conditioning the character of the modern state.It is suggested that at the heart of the poor developmental performance in post-apartheid South Africa, and its diminished developmental state prospects, is a neglect of the role and place of politics and ideas in determining developmental success or failure.
