It is with regret that we received the news of the passing of Prof Jan Boeyens, an Extraordinary Professor at the Centre for the Advancement of Scholarship. He passed away on Wednesday 26 August. He had recently returned from Indaba 8, a conference organized by the South African Crystallographic Society, where the 3rd Jan Boeyens Prize was awarded to a young South African researcher who has made a distinguished contribution to the utilization of crystallography and other structural methods in a holistic manner to investigate fundamental problems in nature.
