Overview

Target archery is a rapidly growing sport in South Africa. Whether your goals are social or competitive, TuksArchery offers the ideal platform for archers of all ages.

Our offerings:

  • Disciplines: TuksArchery has recurve and compound members participating in different federations and disciplines nationwide.
  • Competitions: The club hosts several World Archery-sanctioned competitions each year.

TuksArchery has produced many Protea archers over the years, including:

  • Danelle Wentzel: First South African archer to win an individual gold medal at a World Cup stage.
  • Christian de Klerk: First South African archer to win an individual medal at the FISU World University Games. Both (De Klerk and Wentzel) are Tuks graduates and recipients of the TuksSport Awards Sportsmen of the Year and Sportswomen of the Year accolades respectively.
  • Paralympians: Shaun Anderson (W1 category) and Philip Coates-Palgrave (CMO category).
  • Junior Olympian: Wian Roux (Recurve Under 18).
  • Paris 2024: Wian Roux, guided by Patrick Roux (Coach/Manager) - the first South African archer in 12 years to compete at the Olympics.  

Our members have won medals at World Cups, World Championships, and African Continental Championships, holding national and world records in the SANAA and SANIFAA disciplines. We currently have two World Archery Level 1 Accredited Coaches and one National Judge.

  • South African Archery Association (SANAA): The club is affiliated with SANAA, which includes three World Archery disciplines: 720 format, Indoor (18m and 9m), and 1440 format. National championships for the 720 and Indoor disciplines are held annually.
  • South African National Field Archery Association (SANIFAA): The club is also affiliated with SANIFAA, which offers Indoor (18y), Field, and 3D events. National championships are held annually for all disciplines, with entry criteria for SANIFAA members.
  • World Archery: Offers four 720 World Cup stages each year, a finals event for the top 8 archers, and World Championships every two years for senior, para, and junior archers. They also have a ranking system for senior participants in international events.
  • Olympics: Participation for senior Olympic recurve archers in the World Archery 720 discipline.
  • Paralympics: For disabled archers in various classified categories in both recurve and compound within the World Archery 720 discipline.
  • Protea Archery Colours: Awarded to archers who meet SANAA's minimum requirements and are selected for the national teams.
  • IFFA: Hosts World Championships every two years for all age groups in recurve and compound. Protea Archery Colours are awarded to archers who meet SANIFAA's requirements and are selected for the national teams.
