Diplomats and Heads of Mission from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Mexico and Spain as well as students, alumni, teachers and lecturers from Johannesburg and Pretoria, together with the representative of the Spanish chamber of commerce, the recently retired Spanish teacher from DIRCO, and the executive board of the Hispanists Association of Southern Africa gathered at the Merensky Library Auditorium, on 10-11 of November, to discuss the status of the teaching of Spanish and the new horizons and opportunities that open up for students learning Spanish in South Africa.
The two-day event was also streamed online. The ambassador of Colombia to South Africa, the former ambassador of Venezuela to Congo, the president of the Spanish chamber of commerce, as well as other Hispanists, students, lecturers and researchers from Costa Rica, Italy, Namibia, Spain and Johannesburg had the opportunity to participate online.
