Though initially intimidated, I was drawn to its global reach. By pushing us beyond our comfort zones and encouraging sentence and phrase construction, the Beginners’ French module was a fun and engaging learning experience. Furthermore, becoming a French tutor significantly strengthened my understanding of the language.
Why I Chose French
During my undergraduate studies in Public Management and International Relations, taking a foreign language was a course requirement. While English was an option, I found French to be the more intriguing choice. Though initially intimidated, I was drawn to its global reach, particularly its presence in many African nations. My French proficiency has become a valuable asset.
A Rewarding Journey
In my first year, I enrolled in FRN104. This introductory module provided a solid foundation in the fundamentals of French. By pushing us beyond our comfort zones and encouraging sentence and phrase construction, it sparked a fun and engaging learning experience. My success in FRN104 motivated me to continue studying the language until my third year. This journey solidified my belief that combining curiosity with hard work can make seemingly impossible tasks achievable. Furthermore, becoming a French tutor significantly strengthened my understanding of the language.
French in the Workplace
Currently, I work in an international organization where English isn't always the primary language. My French proficiency has become a valuable asset, allowing me to translate documents and speeches for colleagues and ensuring clear communication within our diverse team.
Embrace the Challenge
I highly encourage students to embrace the challenge of learning French. While it won't be easy, the rewards are truly worthwhile.
