Professor Anculien Schoeman

Teaching Excellence Laureate Award

Professor Anculien Schoeman is an associate professor in the Department of Taxation within the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences

She teaches taxation and business acumen to undergraduate students and serves as the course coordinator for both modules. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she supervises master’s and doctoral students in taxation. She is also a registered chartered accountant (SA). Professor Schoeman holds the following degrees: PhD (Taxation), MCom (Taxation), BComHons (Accounting Sciences) and BCom (Accounting Sciences).

Professor Schoeman has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals. She also seeks collaboration opportunities and has presented her research at numerous national and international conferences. Her research focuses on tax compliance and policy development. Her recent work explores public perceptions of the proposed National Health Insurance scheme in South Africa and the potential role of a tax lottery system in enhancing tax compliance. She is the Deputy Chair of the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences.

Professor Schoeman and Mrs Tanya Hill were awarded the 2023 Teaching and Learning Excellence Award from the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences for the eFiling simulation project they are undertaking with their students. They also received the UP Institutional Teaching Excellence Laureate Award for this project in 2024.
