The sports day enables Thuthuka-supported students to network through sport while having fun. It creates an ideal opportunity to allow university students, as well as members of the accountancy profession, to interact with one another in a relaxed atmosphere.

The University of Pretoria hosted the Thuthuka Sports Day 2009 for Thuthuka students from the Gauteng universities on Saturday 1 August 2009. The sports day was sponsored by Pastel Accounting and each student received a beautiful Pastel Accounting carry bag and pen.

The whole of Gauteng was soaking wet and cold on that day. Luckily the University of Pretoria’s Groenkloof Campus has excellent indoor sports facilities, so the soccer, netball, volleyball and chess were played indoors.

Nthato Selebi, the Project Director of the Thuthuka Bursary Fund, was the MC at the event and did a sterling job. The winning teams received trophies and also received individual prizes. The following universities were winners: Soccer – University of Johannesburg; Netball – Wits University; Volleyball – University of Johannesburg and the Chess cup was shared by University of Pretoria and the University of Johannesburg.
