EARN - SAVE - INVEST - GIVE

'EARN as much as you can. SAVE as much as you can. INVEST as much as you can. GIVE as much as you can.' Rev. John Wellesly

4DEF, a student driven initiative, is an acronym for “For the Future.” This event seeks to expand the financial and business knowledge of the UP Thuthuka students, through fun and exciting teamwork activities. The challenge has grown and developed in the last year as the 2010 committee sought to bring fresh and new ideas to make it a great learning experience for the students, while having lots of fun.

This year the 4DEF Challenge participants were urged to bring canned food, clothes and toys for the Leamogetswe Safety Home in Atteridgeville - which provides a secure and caring environment for homeless, abandoned, abused and neglected children from the community. We are very proud that all the participants contributed to this charity, which also scored them points for their respective teams.

Participants were all given T-shirts and divided into teams representing the various sponsors: SAICA, BDO, Deloitte, KPMG, Finweek, Moore Stephens, Hollard Insurance, PriceWaterHouseCoopers, the Department of Agriculture, LexisNexis, RSM Betty Dickson, Ernst & Young, O.M.A and RussellStone.

The winning team had to display creativity, team work, vocalisation, self-expression, general knowledge, endurance, comprehension, intellect and physical skill in order to conquer the challenges of the day. In this regard the 4DEF Challenge plays an important role in training the CA’s of the future.
