These days are organised with a view to exposing students to possible career choices within their occupations, and also where to enter into internships after obtaining their honours degrees.

The TOPP (Training Outside Public Practice) business institutions such as Standard Bank, ABSA, Investec, Nedbank, SARS, SAB, the National Treasury, First Rand, MTN, Oasis, Mercedes Benz SA and Sappi made this day on 24 February 2011 possible. Many students from their first to honours years attended. We would like to thank especially Standard Bank for their help in arranging the day with Eunice du Toit of the Department of Accounting Sciences.

The business institutions were very excited about the turnout and also because we managed to present such an open day, as open days are usually presented only for all fields of study and this was therefore the only one of its kind at Tukkies. According to representatives of one of the TOPP business institutions one of the other top universities in South Africa is now going to follow our example and present an open day like ours this year, with some of the TOPP business institutions attending.

The Open Day of medium and smaller accounting businesses that belong to TIPP (Training in Public Practice) takes place on 10 March 2011. Open days were arranged specifically for the “Big Four” accounting businesses, KPMG, PWC, Ernst & Young and Deloitte.
