Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorist Financing Conference

Posted on December 07, 2011

Danie du Plessis of the Unit for Forensic Accounting in the Department of Accounting and a board member of the local chapter, gave two presentations. The first was on effective AML investigation and the second on critical updates and expected regulatory changes that will affect South Africa. One of the aspects highlighted in Danie’s presentation was the fact that the South Africa’s AML regulatory framework for accountants is not in line with international requirements. Changes to local legislation will have the consequence that AML requirements for accountants will become more onerous.

Danie also facilitated a three-hour workshop at the Conference.
