LJ van Zyl progressed safely into the semi-finals of the men's 400 metre hurdles on Monday as he finished second in the final heat of the day in a time of 49.12s.
Later in the evening, Rio time Wenda Nel also booked her spot in the semi-finals of the women’s 400m hurdles with second place in her heat in 55.55 seconds.
