Hpc sponsored swimmers podiumed at SA Nationals

Well done to our swimmers with their performances at the 2015 SA National Aquatic Championship held in Durban from 13 – 18 April 2015.

SUMMARY: 

Cameron van der Burgh got his first world championship qualification out of the way in the semi-final of the 100m breaststroke on day one in a time of 1:00.30.  He attained the qualifying standard in the 200 metre breaststroke in a time of 2:11.37.  He continues to win the men’s 50m breast in 27.20 and the finals of the 100m breaststroke. 

Emily Gray claimed gold in Disabled (S1 – S13) women’s 100m Breast in a time of 1:17.17 and in the women’s 100m Free in 1:08.52.  She took Silver in the Women’s 200m IM in 2:59.30.   On day one she  also competed against the able bodies where she also qualified for the World Championships in the 400m freestyle in a time of 4:57.55.

Karin Prinsloo clocked 4:12.55 to win the women’s 400m freestyle title. She also claimed the 200m freestyle in a time of 2:00.30 and took a Silver medal in the women’s 200m backstroke in 2:13.12.  She was also part to a silver in women’s 4 x 100m Free Relay (3:54.23),  2 x gold in the Mixed 4 x 100m Medley Relay (3:59.00) and the Women’s 4 x 100m Medley Relay (4:12.04) respectively  and a bronze in the women’s 4 x 50m Free Relay (1:48.02).

Darren Murray took third sport on the podium in 2:04.59 in the men’s 200m backstroke and was part to a gold medal in the Mixed 4x100 Medley Relay in 3:59.00

Caydon Muller claimed bronze in the men’s 100m Freestyle in 50.66.  He was part to a Gold medal in the Mixed 4 x 100m Free Relay (3:37.17), 2 x Silvers in the  men’s 4 x 100m Free Relay  (3:22.71 ) and in men’s 4 x 200m Free Relay (7:41.26) respectively and a bronze in men’s 4 x 50m Free Relay (1:32.65).

Just five swimmers (all of them male) have achieved the World Championships qualification standards:

Ayrton Sweeney – 200m Breaststroke
Chad le Clos – 100m & 200m Butterfly, 200m Freestyle & 200m Individual Medley,
Sebastien Rousseau – 200m Butterfly & 400m Individual Medley
