Professor Salomé Human-Vogel is associate professor in the Department of Educational Psychology where she trains and supervises prospective psychometrists, counsellors and educational psychologists in family counselling and family-oriented intervention. Her teaching and clinical interests focus on systemic family therapy, while her research interests focus on examining commitment in interpersonal (family) and academic contexts as a self-regulatory process. Professor Human-Vogel publishes regularly in peer-reviewed journals and disseminates her work at national and international conferences. She is a NRF-rated researcher (C3). Several instruments to measure commitment in family, academic and community contexts is currently being developed in collaboration with students who are completing/have completed their masters dissertations and doctoral theses under Professor Human-Vogel’s supervision. In collaboration with Dr Mampane (primary investigator) NRF-funding has recently been obtained to study resilience and commitment in families where grandparents care for orphaned children in disadvantaged contexts. In addition to collaboration with Dr Mampane, Professor Human-Vogel collaborates with Prof Chris Niemiec from Rochester University, focusing on commitment and self-determination.
