Prof Jan van Heerden and Dr Heinrich Bohlmann from UP’s Department of Economics and experts from the Centre of Policy Studies at Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia, hosted an economic model handover and training workshop for Gauteng Provincial Government officials during April 2018.
The one-week training workshop was an integral part of the overall project in which a state-of-the-art applied general equilibrium model was built. The model will enable national and provincial policymakers to make informed and evidence-based decisions regarding a broad range of policy scenarios. At present, the teams are collaborating on a number of research reports that involve economic modelling of topical policy issues. The success of this project has strengthened the more than 15 year relationship between the three institutions and the Department of Economics looks forward to many more years of scientific collaboration.
