UP Youth Choir part of National Campaign to create awareness for the protection of woman and children.

Posted on May 30, 2013

This popular choir festival will have participants from Sedibeng (Sedibeng Sweet Voices), Rustenburg (Lebone College), Kemptonpark (Kemptonpark High School) and local schools who will join the festivities are Lerato Convent School, Pretoria High School for Boys and then obviously the famous UP Youth Choir.

To create awareness on the issues embraced through the Zazi campaign whereby woman are encouraged to use their inner strength to guide their decision, the UP drama department will perform a 15 minute play named ‘Rouge’ to enforce the power of personal choice.

This ‘green’ event – green is the international colour for protection of woman and children – aims to introduce a new era with new beginnings and the rebirth of the era where woman are respected and children protected. We encouraged our audience to wear something green as symbol of strength and togetherness.

The engaging rhythm makes the song stick in your mind and words of the song send a clear message that is true for all of us:

‘Zazi, it’s time to know yourself, you know you got the strength, Zazi who you are;
Zazi, it’s time to love yourself, you know you got the strength, Zazi who you are.’

The poem by King Nova inspires us to become our own true person making choices that is right for us:

“You symbolise the strength of every

woman who has ever walked this road

The strength of feet planted as firm as a

million trees to bear this life’s load

As strong as these knots that have

reminders wrapped into them

This green reflects wisdom, strength,

greatness and hope

This rope, connects us to survival, and

sisterhood

Because we never walk alone

Love you, until you feel you, until you

find you

Calm, in any storm

Know yourself as the true compass

Where blessed beginnings are first born

Claim yourself, Crown Yourself and know

yourself as a new day

Where the sun awaits in wonder, to reveal

a blank page”
