Posted on March 18, 2015

Tuks Camerata’s latest CD titled Phoenix, under the direction of Michael Barrett, has been nominated for a South African Music Award (SAMA) in the category Best Classical/Instrumental Album. This was announced at the official 21st SAMA Nominee Announcement Ceremony held at the Rand Club in Johannesburg. This is a huge honour for the University of Pretoria.

‘It is a great honour to be nominated for a SAMA, especially alongside the best musicians in the country,’ said conductor Michael Barrett. He praised Tuks Camerata for their dedication and commitment to the choir and to the University.

Camerata performed most of the works on their Phoenix album at the 2014 World Choir Games where they won the category Best Youth Choir and were the runners-up in the Folklore category.

The choir and five other artists, namely Charl du Plessis, CH2 Guitar Duo, Tony Cox and Grammy winner Wouter Kellerman, were nominated for this SAMA award. The award ceremony will take place at Sun City on 19 April 2015.
