Tissue Donation

TISSUE DONATION

Thousands of South Africans await organ and tissue transplants. Tragically, due to the critical shortage, only a few will receive a transplant, and without a transplant they face certain death.

Transplants have become so successful that many people can be considered for this kind of
treatment. Unfortunately more and more critically ill patients are added to the waiting list daily and this is happening faster than tissue becomes available. As a result, many individuals who could have lived through a transplant are dying.

Heart, lung, liver and kidney transplants save many lives. A cornea transplant can restore sight to a blind person and the donation of bone tissue could dramatically improve the quality of life for many seriously ill or injured people.

The shortage of corneas, skin and bone tissue is even more alarming. Approximately 35 000
people are currently waiting for transplants of these types of tissue alone. Your decision to be a tissue donor could benefit a variety of people of all ages.
