Prof Tanya van Wyk is the Head of the Department of Systematic and Historical Theology, and an associated professor of Systematic Theology and Christian Ethics. She is an NRF rated scholar (C2). Van Wyk is the current Chairperson of the Faculty of Theology and Religions’ Research Ethics Committee, as well as being the Chairperson of one South Africa’s oldest theological societies, the Theological Society of South Africa (TSSA). She is the first women to hold this position. Van Wyk currently leads UP’s Women Leadership Programme, aimed at increasing women in leadership positions, as well as assisting women of UP to re-author their narratives as change makers from a critical leadership perspective. Van Wyk’s lecturing responsibilities include Christian Spirituality, Christian Ethics and Systematic Theology. Her current research foci include discourses about inclusive language, political theology, gender, feminist theology and ethics, and religion and sustainable development with a focus on gender equity. She is currently a research fellow with the Institute for Peace Studies in Eastern Christianity, situated at Harvard Divinity School, and she is associated with the International Network for Religion and Sustainable Development. She is an ordained minister of the Netherdutch Reformed Church of Africa (NRCA/NHKA). Recent publications include:
