Erasmus to make a splash at World Student Games

Posted on July 03, 2015

The 25-year-old Boksburg swimmer will be participating in the 50m, 100m and 4x100m freestyle relay categories, following his impressive showings at the Kings Park Swimming Pool, in Durban, during the South African National Championships, where he earned his qualification to the East Asian nation.

Erasmus swam within the respective qualifying times of 23.03 seconds for the 50m and 51.11 for the 100m, to book his ticket with his finishes of 22.80 and 50.68.

“I felt good,” said the University of Pretoria student when asked about his selection for the games.

“It made me realise that I have another opportunity to show what I’ve got, as well as to represent my country.”

Erasmus’s selection adds to his international résumé, which includes swimming for the country at the games which were held in Russia in 2013, participating in the Pan Pacific Championships in Australia last year and featuring at the Senior African Championships, to list a few.

He’s scheduled to be back in the country on July 15, before heading to Pietermaritzburg for the South African Short Course Nationals, to be held between July 16 and 19.
