As an initiative of UPSSWA (University of Pretoria Student Social Workers Association), Ms Juliet Sambo and fifteen social work students of our Department spent Mandela Day volunteering at the Amandea Safe House for Children in Pretoria North.
The group spent the day painting the fences, gates and the gutters of the Safe House, as well as cleaning, raking and weeding the gardens. Funding to purchase equipment were received from House Humanities. Ms Sambo indicates that “there is still a lot work left to do” and expresses the hope that students can be engaged in other projects at Amandea Safe House in future.
