Do you think that discrimination is prevalent in NAS and/or the University? If so, what do you think can be done to eradicate it?
Since discrimination is present in various forms, ranging from subtle to blatant, it will always be present in our society, including within the Faculty and University structures. Thinking back over the past 26 years that I have been part of UP, first as a student and then a staff member, I was disheartened to see various forms of discrimination at play against my friends and colleagues. However, since then, the Faculty and UP have taken a firm stance against all forms of discrimination by adopting a zero-tolerance approach. The increased awareness and education of the University community has contributed to a decline in the prevalence of these injustices. The Faculty and University management have measures in place to try to curb discrimination. It starts with a change in the mindset of each individual. Treat others the way you want to be treated, be fair-minded, and show respect for others and their beliefs and values.

Do the University and society do enough to prevent GBV? What ideas do you have to put a stop to GBV?
By adopting a zero-tolerance approach to GBV and creating awareness through various channels, I believe that the University is doing what it can to prevent GBV. In society, harsher sentences are needed to send a clear message that we will not tolerate such acts of violence. People tend not to get involved, but if one suspects someone is a victim of GBV, I feel we must become involved and give support.

What is your pledge to help to make NAS a better place for all of us?
I pledge to support the Faculty's initiatives to create a safe environment for all staff and students, where discrimination in all types and forms is not tolerated. I pledge to treat all staff and students with respect.
