Rabia Mathakutha, an MSc student in the Ecology section of the Department of Plant Science, won the "People's choice" award for her presentation at the 2015 Indibano hosted by SAEON (South African Environmental Observation Network). This student conference focused on long term environmental monitoring for the benefit of human society, and was held at Kimberly (5 - 7 September 2015). The conference ran over three days, including a day of presentations by post-graduate student delegates from a variety of subject areas and institutions, as well as a two day statistical R workshop, which were both a success.
Rabia's research is examining functional traits in alien and indigenous plants in the sub-Antarctic. You can read more about her recent fieldwork here.
