Mr. Jaccie Zeelie is currently employed as a lecturer at the Potchefstroom campus of the North-West University. He teaches various subjects in pure and applied mathematics to undergraduate and honors students. He is keen to constantly improve as a teacher of mathematics and is passionate about instilling a love and appreciation for the subject in his students. His current research interest is the optimal control of decentralized control systems. He is working with his PhD supervisor prof. Sanne ter Horst on research questions that emerged from his PhD work. Furthermore he is also collaborating with colleagues at the engineering faculty to study systems and control theory from the engineering perspective. Mr. Jaccie Zeelie completed his BSc with majors in mathematics and applied mathematics at NMMU in Port Elizabeth in 2012. He started his postgraduate studies at the NWU in 2013 and completed his honors degree in mathematics in 2013 and his master's degree in mathematics in 2015, both with distinction. For his honors project he investigated product integration of matrix valued functions and for his masters dissertation he conducted a survey of vector integration and its applications to stochastic processes. For his PhD studies, he transferred from pure to applied mathematics to the field of systems and control theory. His PhD thesis investigates realization and control theory for certain classes of decentralized systems. He handed in his thesis in November 2022 and is currently awaiting his result.
