Mr Lethani Ndwandwe

Lethani Ndwandwe is a PhD candidate and lecturer in the Subject group Statistics at the North West University, Potchefstroom Campus. He obtained his Bachelor degree in Applied Mathematics & Statistics, Honours, and Master’s degree in Statistics from the University of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN). His supervisor for his Phd is Prof. James Allison with co-supervisors Prof. Jaco Visagie, and Prof. Leonard Santana; all from North West University.

Lethani began his academic career at Sol Plaatje University (SPU) in 2016, where he taught mathematical statistics modules such as Introductory Probability Theory, Probability and Sampling Theory, Statistical Inference, and Data Analysis. His research interests revolve around goodness-of-fit testing and survival analysis. He examines existing literature on goodness-of-fit testing and develops new classes of tests for the Pareto type I distribution, based on some characterisations. Lethani also established some theoretical relationships concerning the consistency of these test statistics under consideration.

He has participated in a range of organizations, including student committees, and presently holds a position in Teachers4DataAnalytics. Furthermore, he serves on the local organizing committee for both the GOFCP and StatCon workshops to be hosted in the Kruger National Park and Cape Town, respectively.

Lethani has delivered several presentations at both local and international workshops and conferences, including the South African Statistics Association (SASA) and the 36th International Workshop on Statistical Modelling (IWSM).
