Dr Bonelwa Sidumo is a statistics lecturer under the nGAP programme at North-West University, Vanderbijlpark Campus. She obtained her BSc Honours in Applied Statistics from the University of Fort Hare, MSc in Mathematical Statistics from Rhodes University and recently completed her PhD in Operational Research from North-West University, Vanderbijlpark Campus. She teaches undergraduate statistics. She is an emergent researcher that is expected to supervise postgraduate students and publish articles in accredited journals. Her primary area of research lies in the development and application of machine learning methods that can be used to answer various ecological questions. Her interest is in the improvement of statistical approaches that are used to model ecological count dataset. The models she works on relate to species count data, species abundance and occurrence, species distribution modelling as well as classification of multiple-species all primary from statistical and machine learning point of view. Her research is driven by a motivation to assist ecologists in developing models that will provide biologically meaningful results. Contact: [email protected] |
