Dr Mathibele W Nchabeleng

Mathibele W. Nchabeleng is a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Pretoria, where he teaches Mathematical Modelling and Dynamical Processes. He has extensive teaching and tutoring experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level. His current teaching activities involve the introduction of the Python programming language to first year students. Mathibele is the co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Sego Sa Lesedi Foundation. His passion extends to the development of quality education at all levels of study. He is passionate about education and knowledge transfer. Mathibele believes that we need an educated African nation to heal the ills of Africa and her people.

Mathibele’s masters considered the problem of a fluid-driven fracture in a permeable medium with non-Darcy flow. The Perkins-Kern-Nordgren (PKN) approximation was used to relate the pressure to the fracture half-width. An extension of this work was conducted in his doctoral studies where the pressure is related to the fracture half-width by the Cauchy principal value integral derived from linear elastic fracture mechanics. Mathibele’s current research involves the investigation of numerical methods for solving Singular Integral Equations with Cauchy-type kernels of the first kind. His research interests include but are not limited to integrodifferential equations, integral equations, fluid mechanics, mathematical modelling, numerical analysis, machine learning and natural language processing. A record of his publications, awards and details of his earlier research can be found on his personal website.
