Ms Jesca Mercy Batidzirai

Jesca is Biostatistician who has more than 10 years of teaching experience. She has done a PhD on Discrete- Time Multi-state Models for Recurring Events, which is currently under examination. She has published 10 papers to date with 3 more that are currently under review. Her target is to improve the quality and quantity of these publications as she disseminates all findings from her work. She values collaboration with more experienced researchers, thus she is involved in interacting with other upcoming and young Biostatisticians in Sub-Saharan Africa on various Biostatistics topics. Jesca is a member of the South African Statistical Association (SASA) and International Biometric Society (IBS). Her passion for research and teaching makes her intend to apply for grants such as the DHET-funded Future Professors or the Thuthuka Programme which will boost her recognition in her research area.

She is currently teaching first year, second year and Masters statistics courses at UKZN and has supervised some masters and honors projects. To date, she has graduated 3 Masters students and has 2 more who will be submitting their Master’s thesis for examination in 2023.

Research Interests: Biostatistics, Survival Analysis, Discrete Time-to-event Analysis, Longitudinal Data Analysis, Multilevel Modeling, Meta- Analysis, Time Series Analysis
