Dr Shivani Singh

Dr S Singh began her tertiary education at University of Kwa-Zulu Natal in 2011, where she majored in Maths and Applied Maths, with the intention of pursuing a career in academia someday. She completed her Honours degree, in 2014 summa cum laude. After that, she studied at the University of Witwatersrand for a Masters and Doctorate degree in mathematics. In 2016, she received an MSc degree, with distinction, from Wits University, my primary research area was combinatorial aspects of symmetries on groups. Her doctoral research focused on the combinatorial aspects of group colorings and resulted in two journal articles. She has also presented the outcomes of this PhD research at two conferences. Thereafter, Dr S Singh eagerly joined SANSA (South African National Space Agency), in April 2021, based at Hermanus, as a postdoctoral researcher in plasma physics. Her research with SANSA focused on obliquely propagating supersolitons in magnetised plasmas. She also presented this postdoctoral research at the South African Institute of Physics annual conference. Dr S Singh had the privilege of joining UNISA in November 2021, where she is currently a full-time academic at the multi-disciplinary Department of Decision Sciences, in the College of Economics and Management Sciences. She teaches the course DSC2602: Rational Decision making. She also co-supervises a Masters student in the research area, orthogonal polynomials and stochastic processes and an Honours student in Graph Ramsey theory. Dr S Singh is also involved in the Community Engagement project Mooc (Massive Online Open Course) at the Department of Decision Sciences at Unisa. This project consists of designing short free online courses aimed at teaching basic skills in mathematics, to help bridge the gap in mathematical literacy
