Dr Neill Smit

Dr Neill Smit started his academic career in 2015 as a contract lecturer in the Subject Group: Statistics at the North-West University (NWU), Potchefstroom. He completed his BSc and BSc (Hons) degrees in Actuarial Sciences, after which he enrolled for an MSc in Statistics in 2015. He obtained his PhD in Statistics from the NWU in 2021. The topic for his PhD was Bayesian accelerated life testing models.

His research interests include reliability theory, survival analysis and risk analysis. He has published papers in national and international accredited journals and presented his research at various national and international conferences. He is also an external examiner and moderator for some South African universities.

Dr Smit was part of the local organising committee for the 50th Annual Conference of the Operations Research Society of South Africa, hosted by the NWU. He is also a member of the South African Statistical Association (SASA) and the International Society for Bayesian Analysis (ISBA).
