Dr Marcel Dunaiski

I studied computer science at Stellenbosch University and received my PhD in the beginning of 2019. My research fell into the fields of Scientometrics and Informetrics with a focus on the evaluation of metrics and algorithms that are used for ranking academic researchers and scientific articles.

Between 2019 and 2021, I worked for the Solar Thermal Energy Research Group (STERG) at Stellenbosch University where I was the team lead of the Helio100 project with the aim to further develop and commercialise the locally designed heliostat technology (HelioPod). At the same time, I was also working for the Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science and Technology (CREST) as a consultant on data science tasks.

Currently I am a lecturer at Stellenbosch University in the division of Computer Science. I am also a researcher for the School for Data Science and Computational Thinking. My research area covers data science problems with a focus on natural language processing research and informetric applications. I have a great passion for open-source projects, open data and open citations, and love coding stuff in Java and Python.
