Sonwabile Mafunda completed his PhD at the University of Johannesburg in Graph Theory in 2020. The title of his thesis is Aspects of distance measures in graphs and digraphs. He is currently a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics in the same university. His research interests are in aspects of distance measures in graphs and digraphs, and in some aspects of algebraic graph theory, in particular, the automorphism group of a graph. Graph theory studies mathematical structures called graphs and their properties. Graphs can be used to describe a great variety of problems and have therefore been used extensively in different fields for example the spectral properties of graphs, such as, eigenvalues of adjacent matrix of a graph can be used for studying certain cryptographic functions. Prior to joining the University of Johannesburg, he completed both his junior degree and his MSc in Mathematics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He is a recipient of the 2019 British Council Newton Fund: Researcher Links Travel Grant where he undertook a research visit to the Royal Holloway, University of London to work on research in Remoteness and Proximity in digraphs (directed graphs). |
