Lyson Chaka

Lyson Chaka  holds a PhD in Statistics (2023), MSc. degree in Statistics (2017), a BSc. Honours degree in Statistics (2013), all obtained through the University of South Africa, a BSc. degree in Mathematics and Statistics  (ZOU, 2006), and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree (ZOU, 2014). He is currently employed as a Statistics lecturer at the University of Pretoria.

Prior to joining the University of Pretoria, Lyson served as a Statistics lecturer at Sol Plaatje University from the 1st of September 2018 to the 31st of March 2024. He also served as an Independent Contractor (Marker) in the Department of Statistics at UNISA from 2019 to 2022 where he was responsible for marking a number of assessments in the BSc Honours Statistics programme. This adds to his experience as a mathematics educator in the Limpopo, Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga Departments of Education in South Africa from 2008 to 2018, as well as the Ministry of Education Sport and Culture in Zimbabwe from 2001 to 2007. Lyson’s research interest includes but is not limited to Statistical Modelling, Design of Experiments, Statistical Process Control, linear and non-linear models, Generalized linear models (GLMs), Multivariate Statistics and Time Series. Over the past years, he has contributed to the body of knowledge in statistical modelling, with particular focus on linear mixed model methodology.
