I completed my undergrad (majoring in Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics) and Honours (Mathematical Statistics) at Nelson Mandela University between 2005 and 2008. I have always had an interest in research into developmental issues and this, coupled with the desire to further my studies at UCT, led to me enrolling for the MSc in Operational Research for Development in 2009, where I built a decision support system to assist Foodbank South Africa with food allocation to NGOs and NPOs. After completing my masters in 2010, I took up a part-time Mathematics teaching post at Bishops Diocesan College in 2011, during which I completed a PGCE through UNISA. In June 2012, I accepted a lecturing post in the Department of Statistical Sciences which commenced in January 2013. I have a strong research interest in sports analytics, with the area of performance analysis in rugby my current focus. My current PhD research aims at advancing statistical methodology in developing contextual, robust and transparent indicators of successful performance that are effectively communicated to and applied by pertinent stakeholders (e.g. coaches and players) via statistical and decision support tools in real-world applications. |
