Q1: How do you see the role of industrial and organisational psychologists change with the COVID-19 crisis?
I feel that the roles of industrial and organisational psychologists will remain the same, however the way in which services are delivered will change. Technology will be used to a greater extent in delivering services.
Q2: If you could go back one year, what advice would you give yourself?
Take a breath, slow down and enjoy where you are at the moment.
Q3: Any tips for fellow students to achieve academic success?
Take it step by step. Engage with lectures and fellow students and learn from each other. Work harder and smarter than ever before.
Q4: Name the three people you look up to (in your study field or otherwise) and provide short reasons for your listing.
Prof Jenny Hoobler: I have been her research assistant for a short while now and already learned so much from her. She never stands back for anything or anyone.
Suzanne Gericke: Being my research supervisor, she taught me the value of kindness and patience.
Sakkie van Greunen: He inspired me from the first day we met in class. He overflows with passion for his field and you can’t help but be inspired to achieve the utmost of your ability.
Q5: What single message (a quote/motto/paragraph) would you want more people to know and remember?
"When fear has risen within her, she will raise her hands even higher, taking deep breaths, as the daylight reminds her. She is guided. She is seen. And by Grace she will make it through all these things." - Morgan Harper Nichols
‘TAKE 5 with…’ is a campaign by the Department of Human Resource Management to feature 2019’s academic achievers. The purpose of the campaign is firstly to honour the students by showcasing them and their achievements online, and also to give other students and members of academia and industry an insight into their ideas and the keys to their success. Each profile is made up of a short description of the candidate, followed by their answers to five questions we posed to them.
