New Commercii Executive Committee takes office

Posted on October 10, 2017

After a successful and well-attended voting period, the Executive Committee of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences’ student house Commercii took office on 15 September 2017.

Their inauguration function was attended by EMS’s Dean, Prof Elsabé Loots, who emphasised the importance of the faculty house in empowering students with the opportunity to provide input to the Faculty and the departments. She explained that the Faculty management team appreciates the individual and collective contributions of the students and hopes that the experience and knowledge they gain will benefit their future careers.

The 13-member strong team will continue to be supervised by Dr Ingrid le Roux, who has been the guardian of the student society for the past two terms. “It is sad to say farewell to the previous committee, but I’m excited to see the new ideas and fresh energy that the new team will bring,” said Dr le Roux.

Thanking the outgoing committee, Dr le Roux noted how they had made a difference throughout their term and highlighted some of their most successful projects. Among them were the use of the clickUP platform to communicate directly with EMS students; the ‘Carry on 4 Baby’ project, during which baby supplies were collected and distributed to needy mothers; and helping to relocate the library at a school in Mamelodi.

The outgoing committee’s hard work was also acknowledged at the annual Day and Faculty Houses Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Department of Student Affairs on 28 September 2017. They received awards in recognition of their extracurricular activities and outstanding administration and governance.
