Nanjing internal audit exchange students experience SA

Posted on November 29, 2019

The Department of Auditing once again hosted two students from Nanjing Audit University (NAU) in China for the past six months. This is part of the international exchange contract between the University of Pretoria (UP) and NAU. Nanjing originally signed an agreement with UP in 2009 for the exchange of internal auditing students and academics. During December 2018 the contract was renewed for another five years. Prof Kato Plant (Acting Head of the Department of Auditing) also visited NAU during November 2019 to further discuss other collaborations. The two exchange students from NAU share their experience below:

Luo Xiao
“During the period of learning at UP, I always felt that I made a superb decision to be an exchange student in South Africa. The systematic teaching methods and the helpful teachers and classmates was a pleasant surprise. I have learnt a lot from the experience of studying at UP. Every time I worked out a tough question, I felt that all the hard work would pay off. I strongly believe that I have improved myself with the professional knowledge and practical skills I have learnt.

Most importantly, the precious experience taught me to be an independent thinker and actor. In a completely unfamiliar environment, the only way to cope with numerous obstacles is practicing again and again by yourself. Practice may not really make perfect, but it definitely makes a lot of sense. All in all, I am grateful to UP for everything I was taught.”

Yang Xu
“I feel greatly honoured to have come to the University of Pretoria in South Africa in 2019 for exchange study in internal auditing. When I first set foot on the land of South Africa, everything around me was strange. Fortunately, I came across extremely friendly and enthusiastic teachers, who showed us around the campus and told us what we should pay attention to in South Africa. In daily study, each teacher of internal auditing would answer every student’s questions patiently and responsibly. In addition, I met lovely and warm-hearted classmates who were always willing to give directions to us when we got lost on campus and took the initiative to say hello.

What is also worth mentioning is that I spent a long vacation in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban with my partner. The beauty of the South Africa I saw with my own eyes is totally different from what I had imagined before. Certainly, the purple dreamlike jacaranda is also my favourite. It can be said that the exchange study in South Africa is exceedingly impressive. This memory will be engraved in my mind forever. I love South Africa! I love the University of Pretoria! I love everyone in the internal auditing!”
