The 2011 Student Body of House Internal Auditing embarked on a mission just before the Easter recess to host a charity drive which was destined to touch the heart of the Student. Dubbed the ‘Make A Child Happy With A Happy Meal’ campaign, the young group of student leaders set the wheel into motion as they engaged each of the five Internal Auditing class groups, from second year right through to Honours level.

Instead of just collecting items from people, the student body decided to connect with all students registered for the BCom and BCom (Hons) Internal Auditing programs and got them involved in contributing goodies which would be used to create a lunch pack for each child at an orphanage in Mamelodi. The goodies collected included Easter Eggs, Juice Boxes, Potato Crisps, Jungle Energy Bars, as well as Stationery items for the children.

The destination was Charity & Faith Mission Church Orphanage in Mamelodi East and the aim was to spend a day with the youngsters, share a meal with them, play with them, and leave them with a party box filled with goodies that every child yearns for. However, the ultimate wish for House IA was to make a child happy with a happy meal and to achieve this, all Internal Auditing students were asked to buy a child a McDonald’s™ in the form of a R20 donation. The students welcomed the challenge and raised enough money to buy all the orphans at the orphanage a Happy Meal™, and more…

When the day finally arrived, the students made their way to Mamelodi East and had a blast of a time. Songs were sung, games were played, a jumping castle was hired, friends were made and most importantly – fun was had! When asked about their visitors, one of the younger children said, “When are you coming again? Can you come visit us again next week?”.

With such tender words, how can anybody possibly feel anything but a sense of accomplishment and warmth…
