The evening started on a high note with an opening address from Prof Roelf Meyer who shared his thoughts on leadership and how the lessons of the past can help us to overcome our current problems and allow SA to perform according to its potential.
The address was followed by the presentation of certificates to all students as well as the presentation of numerous ‘top student’ awards to the different graduating classes, as well as the recognition of outstanding faculty members as elected by graduates.
Faculty receiving awards were Mr Andrew Abdo, Prof Margaret Sutherland, Dr Rajinder Raina, Mr Greg Fisher, Dr Pieter Pretorius and Prof Adrian Saville.
Top student awards were presented to the following students: Hans Schulte (GIBS top PDBA graduate); Stacey Brewer (GIBS top full-time MBA graduate); Aniel de Beer and Dieter Halfar (joint top modular/evening MBA graduate), Colin Daniels (GIBS top full-time MBA research award candidate) and Zaheeda Cajee (GIBS top modular/evening research award candidate).
After the formal ceremony the evening was celebrated in true GIBS style with cocktails, music and a high-spirited vibe. Overall the evening was a fitting end to all the programmes that were recognised and the hard work of all the students who completed their programmes.
