SA has resources to become powerhouse

Addressing a business breakfast organised by GIBS, East Coast Radio and Trade and Investment KwaZulu Natal in Durban, Binedell cited China, India and Steve Jobs's Apple empire as examples of what could be achieved when countries and businesses worked hard.

"South Africa is in a good position to be a great economic country as the country speaks English and it has a dynamic private sector that can create jobs. In 20 years time, countries like South Africa, Brazil and many others like Argentina and Nigeria will take their places in the world," predicted Binedell.

He said English-speaking countries had an edge because it was a widely spoken business language across the globe. Binedell said all that was needed by South Africa to achieve success was an entrepreneurial mentality which is in abundance in the country.

"We need to use this to our advantage. It is very rare in the world to have a country of South Africa's size having big companies like MTN, SAB-Miller and Bidvest. These multinational companies are based and were started in South Africa," he added.

Binedell ended with the theme, Results and Leadership - pulling it together by saying the country is advantaged because of its resources.
