Because of the economic crisis, she says that since 2009 the level of competition has become a lot stronger among schools globally for the best students. "Typically, Chinese and Indian students would choose to study either in the US or London, but are now becoming a lot more discerning about value for money and are seeing that there are other equally good schools elsewhere in the world, including in SA.

"Africa has opened up a whole new range of possibilities and has become an attractive option for students looking to do an MBA. At GIBS, for instance, since we started offering a dual track fulltime MBA, the level of interest from India and Africa is now quite significant and, in fact, that is where the most traffic on our website comes from..."
